A doctoral thesis was discussed at the Engineering Technical College in Najaf, part of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, entitled “Experimental and Theoretical Study of Direct-Contact Heat Transfer of Bubble Evaporation in Stagnant Immiscible Liquid Media.”
The thesis, submitted by the student Ahmed Razaq Kareem from the Department of Mechanical Power Engineering Techniques, aims to precisely understand the physical behavior of this phenomenon. The study focused on the effects of the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid column and the temperature difference between the two phases on the dynamics of evaporation and heat transfer through both experimental work and theoretical modeling.
This phenomenon is complex and plays a fundamental role in direct-contact heat exchangers (DCHEs), which rely on direct contact between fluids. These exchangers are capable of transferring large amounts of heat compared to conventional surface-type exchangers due to the direct interaction of phases, making them more efficient in applications requiring rapid and effective heat exchange.
A deep analysis of this phenomenon contributes to developing innovative design methods for heat exchangers and understanding the diverse applications of these systems across various industrial fields.
The study included several significant contributions, such as performing a comprehensive statistical analysis of the experimental data, resulting in the development of four empirical correlations that enhance the accuracy of evaporation process predictions. Additionally, an advanced technique using an infrared thermal camera (FLIR E30BX) was employed to assess the evaporation state overall, opening new horizons for improving heat exchanger performance in practical applications.
The results and concepts of the study were published in scientific journals indexed in major global databases such as Clarivate and Scopus, reflecting the scientific and practical importance of these contributions in the field of heat exchangers.
