As part of the activities of the Programming Club Unit at the Technical Engineering College – Najaf, and in cooperation with the Communications and Media Commission, the college hosted a special celebration of World Oceans Day 2025, marking the first event of its kind in Iraq. The celebration aimed to promote environmental and technological awareness among children and to encourage the preservation of water resources and marine ecosystems.
The lively and educational event began with an engaging animated video introducing children to the wonders of the ocean world. This was followed by an interactive session on Artificial Intelligence, designed to simplify the concept in a fun and age-appropriate manner.
A hands-on project titled “Cleaning the Oceans Using Artificial Intelligence” was launched via the Code.org platform, offering children a chance to explore how modern technology can be harnessed to address environmental challenges, particularly those affecting the oceans.
The event also featured a variety of creative stations where children built miniature ocean environments using pebbles, seashells, and colored water. Activities included a fishing game and writing heartfelt messages to the ocean, expressing their love and commitment to protecting marine life.
At the end of the day, each child made a personal pledge to protect water and biodiversity, followed by a recognition ceremony where participants received certificates of appreciation and symbolic gifts as encouragement and support for such meaningful initiatives.
