About the Department

The Department of Health Physics and Radiation Therapy Engineering Technologies at the Al-Najaf Engineering Technical College was launched in 2022 in response to the pressing needs of the region in particular, and the country in general, for this vital specialization. The area hosts many medical facilities and healthcare workplaces capable of employing the department’s graduates, meeting local market demand.

The department is staffed by distinguished faculty members holding Master’s and PhD degrees from leading Iraqi and international universities. It also houses several specialized laboratories—among the rarest nationwide—alongside trained technical staff capable of graduating engineers who can fulfill the department’s objectives.

Vision

The department seeks to be a key contributor to preparing highly competent specialized cadres who can serve broad sectors of work across medical, engineering, and industrial fields in both the public and private sectors.

Mission

To prepare distinguished engineers in health physics and radiation therapy who contribute to community development, raise scientific awareness, and provide solutions to developmental and improvement challenges. The department also aims to enhance the college’s role in institution-building and engineering work to achieve comprehensive development within the framework of human values and principles, while building and strengthening cooperation with stakeholders in engineering and medical fields locally and internationally.

Goals

  1. Graduate qualified engineers in health physics and radiation therapy with strong analytical abilities, practical problem-solving skills, and proficiency in advanced technologies.
  2. Prepare graduates to pursue postgraduate studies inside and outside Iraq and to work in research centers.
  3. Engage in applied research in health physics and radiation therapy, develop solutions to practical problems, and contribute to community service.
  4. Actively support community development and raise the level of education and continuous training in technical engineering; organize conferences and seminars; and adopt continuous improvement methodologies across all activities.

Academic Description

The program includes courses in health physics, radiation therapy techniques, radiation safety, medical imaging technologies, and patient dose management.
